Hancock commissioners OK building purchase

10/18/2002

FINDLAY - Even in the face of a budget crunch in 2003, Hancock County commissioners yesterday approved the $250,000 purchase of a South Main Street building where they intend to build a new county office building.

Commissioners voted 2-1, with Steve Oman voting no, in favor of the agreement with Shirley Kostyo, who owns half of the building just south of the courthouse. Commissioners previously bought the other half of the building from Anne Brimley for $156,250. The building is the final parcel needed for construction of the proposed office building.

Also yesterday, all three commissioners signed an agreement stating that all litigation arising from the dispute over the property should be dismissed. In March, commissioners had sought to obtain the property through eminent domain after failing to agree to a purchase price, and Ms. Kostyo countersued them.
