Levin wins fifth U.S. Senate term in Michigan

DETROIT (AP) - Longtime Detroit Democrat Carl Levin will remain a stout figure in shaping America's military stance as he won a fifth term Tuesday in the U.S. Senate.

With 2 percent of precincts counted, Levin had 56 percent with 42,651 votes, while his closest rival, Republican state Rep. Andrew Rocky Raczkowski, had 42 percent with 32,204 votes.

The 68-year-old Levin, chairman of the powerful Armed Services Committee, led by more than 30 percentage points over Raczkowski in two exit polls.
