Hillsdale man is killed in vehicle-rig collision

JONESVILLE, Mich. — A Hillsdale man was killed yesterday morning in rural Hillsdale County after his vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer rig that failed to stop at a stop sign.

Larry Lee Allen, 56, died in the 5:30 a.m. crash just west of Jonesville, the Michigan State Police said. Troopers at the Jonesville post said Mr. Allen was northbound on M-49 when the rig, which was eastbound on Jonesville Road, ran a stop sign and struck his vehicle. The driver of the truck, John Carter, 58, of Fort Pierce, Fla., was treated for minor injuries.

Police arrested Mr. Carter on charges of negligent homicide. He was being held in the Hillsdale County jail.
