Bridge work to close I-280

1/9/2003

Work associated with the new Maumee River bridge will close I-280 through Toledo Saturday night, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced yesterday.

During the closing, scheduled to run from 6 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday, southbound traffic will be detoured at I-75 and northbound traffic will be detoured at State Rt. 795. Southbound traffic will be allowed to enter I-280 from Navarre Avenue south.

The closing is required while crews work on several bridge piers near the new bridge's East Toledo abutment, ODOT spokesman Joe Rutherford said. Additional work has been scheduled to take advantage of the closing, he said, including I-280 pavement repairs and maintenance on the Craig Memorial Bridge.

In case of bad weather, the work will be postponed until Sunday night. However, in that case, the freeway reopening will be no later than 6 a.m. Monday, Mr. Rutherford said.
