Evergreen school board eyes new taxes

1/10/2003

METAMORA, Ohio - The Evergreen Local Board of Education voted last night to approve two resolutions that could lead to a May 6 vote on a tax increase by residents to cover additional school operating expenses.

In two 5-0 votes, the board adopted one measure that asks the Fulton County auditor to tell the board the amount of millage that is needed to raise $600,000 a year for each of the next three years. Estimates have set it at 4.12 mills.

The other board vote requests the state tax commissioner to calculate what increase in the school district income tax would be necessary to generate the same sum for operating expenses. The district has a 0.75 percent income tax.

District treasurer Linda Kidwell said the school board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at Evergreen High School to decide which tax proposal voters will be asked to approve.
