B.G. board awaits levy calculations

BOWLING GREEN - The Bowling Green Board of Education has asked the Wood County auditor to calculate how much money would be generated by levies of either 3 mills, 3.4 mills, or 3.8 mills - the first step in selecting one of those amounts and placing a tax issue on the May primary election ballot.

The school district, with an enrollment of about 3,300, last collected new tax money from a levy in 1995, Superintendent Hugh Caumartin said. The board is exploring an operating levy that would raise $1.5 million to $2 million a year, he said.

Before the Feb. 20 deadline for the May election, the board has to decide the amount and duration of a levy and whether it would be a new tax issue or replace an existing levy, the superintendent said.
