Seneca County officials to confer on sales tax bid

2/5/2003

TIFFIN — Seneca County commissioners will meet today with elected officials to discuss a proposed sales tax.

A special meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the RTA Building, 109 South Washington St.

The commissioners announced plans last month to put a five-year, 0.5 percent sales tax on the May 6 primary ballot. The tax would generate about $2.1 million, money the commissioners said is needed to help operate county offices.

The tax increase would cost a consumer 50 cents more for every $100 purchase. In May, 2002, voters rejected a 0.25 percent, 10-year sales tax earmarked to renovate the Seneca County Courthouse.
