Lenawee abuse case declared a mistrial

ADRIAN - A judge in Lenawee County Circuit Court declared a mistrial yesterday in the trial of convicted sex offender Randall Fields.

Fields, 46, of Tipton, Mich., was on trial for three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a mentally disabled relative. Judge Harvey Koselka ruled the case a mistrial because it was discovered that Fields might not have been legally related to the victim.

A new trial is scheduled to begin May 6.

Fields is in prison after being convicted in the molestation case of a teenage boy in his Franklin Township home last April.
