Lane closings resume on Airport Highway

3/14/2003

Lane closings will resume tomorrow on Airport Highway in eastern Springfield Township as preparations begin for the second, and likely final, phase of a $9.2 million widening project, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced yesterday.

Beginning in the morning, eastbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane between Holloway Road and I-475 so traffic patterns can be set up for two-way traffic on the eastbound side of the roadway, officials said.

A single lane of westbound traffic will be shifted over on Monday, after which construction will begin.

Joe Rutherford, an ODOT spokesman, had previously said that lane closings would start on a Monday.

But yesterday he explained that dry weather forecast for this weekend supported the prompt resumption of work, and a Saturday start also would allow many motorists to see the changed traffic pattern before Monday morning's rush hour.

Miller Brothers Construction, of Archbold, Ohio, added a lane to the roadway's eastbound side last year, and this year the westbound lanes will be widened and a new median divider built.

All construction is scheduled to conclude by Nov. 11.
