4/9/2003

MONROE - A former president of the Toledo Community Development Corporation Alliance has been tabbed to serve as Monroe's next director of community development.

Ben Tallerico, the former executive director of the Ottawa Community Development Corp. in Toledo, will take over the post this month. His appointment was approved unanimously Monday night by Monroe City Council.

The position pays an annual salary of $65,000.

Mr. Tallerico, a Monroe resident, was a member of Toledo Mayor Jack Ford's transition team, and has spent the last year working in the Mexicantown/Hubbard communities in Detroit.

He replaces Jim Tischler, who left the city's employ in January for a career in the private sector.
