Regional jail will seek grants for program

STRYKER, Ohio — The board governing the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio yesterday authorized its staff to seek grants to expand the regional jail's electronic monitoring program.

The program's expansion is expected to cost up to $100,000 and would allow more participants to take part, as well as enhance supervision, drug testing, and location checks. The grant would require a local matching share of 25 percent, Jim Dennis, executive director, said.

The 642-bed regional jail has embraced electronic monitoring as a way to reduce chronic overcrowding.
