St. Wendelin grad gains fisheries scholarship

6/9/2003

FOSTORIA, Ohio — A recent St. Wendelin High School graduate was chosen as one of 55 students nationwide to participate in the 2003 Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program.

Dominic Goshe, who just completed his senior year, will be working with Larry Goedde of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

He also will be awarded a scholarship from the American Fisheries Society.

The Hutton program was developed by the society primarily to stimulate interest in the fisheries science profession among minority and female high school students, though all high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible.

Each student chosen is awarded a scholarship and matched with a professional mentor for a summer-long, hands-on experience in fisheries science.

Mr. Goshe will help fisheries biologists conduct reservoir and stream surveys, laboratory work to process samples, and maintenance activities on fishing access areas in northwest Ohio.
