Error bars Hagendorn from ballot

6/26/2003

If Oregon city Councilman Gene Hagedorn is going to win re-election to another term, he is going to have to do so as a write-in candidate.

The Lucas County Board of Elections rejected his petitions of candidacy yesterday, declaring them defective because he neglected to list his address on the petitions as required by the city's charter, said Joe Kidd, director of the county elections board.

Mr. Hagedorn's petitions were otherwise fine, Mr. Kidd told the board at its meeting yesterday. He submitted 56 valid signatures of registered voters in Oregon, six more than the 50 that the charter requires.

Mr. Hagedorn was first elected to council two years ago.

In the race for seven seats on Oregon's council, 12 other candidates will appear on the ballot, including six incumbents: Sharon Graffeo-Rudess, Matthew Szollosi, Michael Sheehy, Jerry Peach, James Seaman, and Tony Romano.

The six challengers who will be on the ballot are Jerry Keller, Edwin Beckman, Gregory Row, Michael Seferian, Steven Kusian, and Ronald Rothenbuhler.

In Maumee, incumbent Tim Wagener was certified as the only candidate for mayor, while four people will appear on the ballot for three seats on council there. Incumbents Jenny Barlos, Douglas Brainard, and Todd Zimmerman will be joined by challenger James O'Brien in the council race.
