NORWALK, Ohio — A Norwalk woman was killed yesterday and two other people were hurt in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 250, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Pamela Carpenter, 48, was pronounced dead at Medical College of Ohio Hospitals, Toledo. Robert Shaw, 40, of North Fairfield, Ohio, was listed in serious condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. Christopher McGrath, 33, of Fredericktown, Ohio, refused treatment for minor injuries.

Mrs. Carpenter was southbound on U.S. 250, four miles south of Norwalk, at 7:25 a.m. when she went left of center, sideswiping Mr. McGrath's oncoming semi. She then struck Mr. Shaw's northbound pickup truck head on, troopers at the patrol's Norwalk post said.

The road was closed for three hours while crews cleaned up 50 gallons of diesel fuel.
