State ash-borer survey to target 20 counties

7/2/2003

The Ohio Department of Agriculture will begin surveying 20 northwest Ohio counties this month for signs of emerald ash borers.

Officials will check for the destructive beetles in Allen, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Marion, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, Wood, and Wyandot counties.

Surveys earlier this summer found no sign of emerald ash borers in Ohio since April, when the agriculture department chopped down about 4,000 trees from 23 properties near Whitehouse in Lucas County.
