Allen County lawman serves DUI sentence

7/17/2003

Clyde Breitigan, 51, who oversees the local drug task force, was convicted Tuesday in Lima Municipal Court on one count each of driving under the influence and driving under suspension.

He was sentenced by visiting Judge William Kessler of Tipp City, Ohio, to six days in jail, with three days suspended if Mr. Breitigan completes an alcohol-education course. The judge also fined Mr. Breitigan $350, assessed him $851 in court costs, and ordered his license suspended for one year, effective Nov. 26, 2002.

That day, Mr. Breitigan was arrested twice and charged with driving under the influence. A test given by Lima police after the first arrest showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.20.

As part of a plea agreement, two counts of reasonable control and single counts of driving under the influence and failure to stop after an accident were dismissed. Mr. Breitigan remains an employee of the sheriff's office.
