Nuclear plant gets new resident inspector

7/17/2003

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced yesterday that a new resident inspector has been assigned to the Davis-Besse nuclear plant.

John Rutkowski, who joined the NRC's Region III office last year as a reactor engineer, began working at the plant last month, an NRC spokesman said. Before working for the NRC, Mr. Rutkowski, an Oregon resident, was employed by American Electric Power. He replaces former resident inspector Doug Simpkins.

Viktoria Mitlyng, an NCR spokesman, said a third resident inspector will be named to Davis-Besse this fall. Most nuclear power plants have two resident inspectors, she said.

The need for a third inspector is because of the reactor vessel head degradation at the plant, she said.
