Cigarette-machine sting yields no juvenile arrests

7/18/2003

PORT CLINTON - An undercover operation targeting businesses allowing juveniles to buy cigarettes came up empty. Authorities said that was a good thing.

No businesses let juveniles have access to cigarette machines while members of the Ottawa County Task Force were observing, county Prosecutor Mark Mulligan said.

He said the number of cigarette machines in the county has dropped from 13 to five in the last year.

The enforcement operations will continue, authorities said.
