LEIPSIC, Ohio — An Ottawa, Ohio, woman escaped serious injury late Wednesday when her car collided with a train in town, Leipsic police said.

Nichole Tobe, 18, was taken to St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, where she was treated for her injuries.

Leipsic police said Miss Tobe was southbound at 11:13 p.m. on Putnam County Road 5, just north of State Rt. 65 behind the Iams plant, when her car collided with a northbound CSX train.

Chief Larry England said the force of the impact split the vehicle in two but Ms. Tobe was belted in the front seat and so was pushed off the tracks with the front of the car.

“It was very unusual,” he said. “Most times, that would be a deadly accident.” Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
