Officer quits position on water board

DELTA, Ohio - The secretary of the Swancreek Township Water District Board has resigned for health reasons, leaving township trustees to fill what appears to be a swing vote on the controversial board.

Dann Shelley has said he supported installing public waterlines and assessing homeowners almost $8,900 per dwelling, even though the project was opposed 2-1 on a water board survey of the 544 affected property owners.

“We were hired by the trustees to put water in the ground and that's what we intend to do,” he has said.

He has voted with board President Tom Sallows and Treasurer Skip Green on several key measures opposed by newest board members Mark Fowler and Walt Lange. He's the third to quit the five-member board this year.

“It will certainly be the swing vote, no doubt about it,” said Tom Sullivan, president of Concerned Citizens of Swancreek Township, Inc., a well-organized opposition group to the waterline.
