TIFFIN - The Seneca County sheriff's office resumed handling its own 911 telephone calls early yesterday, after a fire Saturday damaged telephone lines servicing the sheriff's office and other customers in the area.
Emergency service at the sheriff's office resumed at 4:30 a.m. yesterday, after emergency calls were rerouted and answered at the Tiffin police department.
The phone problems were a result of a 2 a.m. blaze at a garage on Melmore Street; phone lines above the garage were damaged.
At the time, about 800 to 1,200 SBC Communications, Inc., phone customers in Tiffin and parts of Seneca County were without phone service.
