A South Toledo man has died from injuries he suffered when he was hit by a car that was backing out of a driveway last week.

Edward W. Berryhill, 20, of 134 Western Ave., died Thursday. An autopsy performed Saturday by Dr. Cynthia Beisser, deputy Lucas County coroner, showed he died from blunt trauma to his head that was caused by the accident.

Anthony Boyd, 20, of 23 Nevada St., was backing out of a driveway in the 500 block of Woodville Road about 11:20 p.m. Aug. 12 when Mr. Berryhill stepped off the curb. The car hit Mr. Berryhill in the hip area, causing him to fall forward onto the hood and then onto the roadway, Toledo police said.

Police cited Mr. Berryhill for a pedestrian right-of-way violation after the accident.

Mr. Berryhill's death is the 22nd traffic fatality in Toledo this year. The number ties the total of traffic-related deaths for all of last year.
