Perrysburg Twp. bans alcohol in public places

8/22/2003

Some signs have been posted and more signs are being made and will be in place by this weekend at Perrysburg Township ball fields, parks, and shelter houses where the consumption of alcoholic beverages is no longer permitted.

Township trustees earlier this week unanimously approved a liquor ban for township buildings, shelter houses, athletic fields, parks and park facilities, and parking lots.

Alcoholic beverages will be permitted at the township fire department's annual feather party, providing that a one-day liquor permit is obtained, township Clerk John Hrosko said yesterday.

Trustees, he said, will have the discretion to lease the township hall for events where alcoholic beverages are to be served, provided the person renting the hall obtains a one-day liquor permit, acquires liability insurance coverage, and agrees to hold the township harmless. Those requirements were included to protect the township, he said.

The resolution, approved during an emergency meeting Wednesday, went into effect immediately.
