SOUTH ROCKWOOD, Mich. — A 21-year-old Newport, Mich., man was hurt seriously yesterday when the pickup truck he was driving on an I-75 exit ramp the wrong way here collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

Michael Alan Beaton was admitted to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, in serious condition.

Mr. Beaton was driving north on the southbound I-75 exit ramp to South Huron River Drive about 6 a.m. when he collided with a tractor driven by Kenneth Burton Merriam, 52, of Sterling Heights, Mich., which was pulling two gravel trailers southbound on the ramp. Mr. Merriam was not hurt.
