Refinery blasts steam to clear welding debris

10/1/2003

Two blasts of steam from the BP Toledo Refinery, 4001 Cedar Point Rd. — at 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. today — may have awakened Oregon and East Toledo residents.

The early morning noise was caused by steam being vented through lines at the Oregon refinery to remove minor accumulations of welding debris, refinery officials said. Each venting of steam was expected to last a minute or two.
