NAPOLEON — The Henry County commissioners yesterday appointed an interim dog warden to replace former county employee Tim Weaver, who was fired recently.

Beth Spurgeon was named to the post, retroactive to Monday. Ms. Spurgeon, who worked part-time in the dog warden's office, will be paid $12.19 an hour, commissioners said.

Commissioners this week also named Sheriff John Nye interim director of the county's emergency management agency. Mr. Weaver, who is facing a felony criminal charge for theft, was the former part-time dog warden and part-time EMA director.

Sheriff Nye said yesterday that he expects to be overseeing the post for about the next 90 days. The commissioners and Sheriff Nye plan to meet on Oct. 16 to discuss job descriptions for that post.
