Michigan man dies after being hit by car

NEWPORT, Mich. — A 24-year-old Newport man died yesterday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, after he was hit by a car late Wednesday night while walking on North Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township, Monroe County sheriff's deputies said.

Michael Saylor, who suffered head injuries, initially was treated in Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe before being taken by air ambulance to St. Vincent.

Mr. Saylor had been walking in the northbound lane of Telegraph, just south of Buhl Road, about 10:40 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound car driven by Bryan Russell, 35, of Monroe, deputies said.

Mr. Russell was not hurt, deputies said.
