A man in his early 20s was killed and three other people were injured early yesterday when a sport utility vehicle collided with a car that caught fire on South Dixie Highway and Sterns Road, Erie Township Fire Chief Michael Demski said.

Authorities were not releasing the identity of the man, who later died at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, except to say he was believed to be from Toledo.

The man was a passenger in a car that was westbound about 12:45 a.m. yesterday on Sterns when the accident occurred. The driver stopped at a flashing red traffic signal, then pulled into the intersection at South Dixie and was struck be a southbound SUV.

The driver of the car and his father, also a passenger in the car, were taken to St. Vincent. The woman driving the SUV was transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital, Monroe.
