Fostoria to brainstorm on raising tax revenue

FOSTORIA — City Council will conduct a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. tonight to discuss possible changes in the municipal income tax.

Fostoria tax administrator Denise Brown told council last week that the city must update its income tax ordinance to comply with changes in state law. But Ms. Brown also suggested that council might want to make other changes to increase revenue from the 2 percent tax.

Proposals include taxing lottery prizes and other gambling winnings, taxing income earned by residents under 18, and giving residents who work elsewhere partial credit for taxes paid to another municipality, instead of full credit.
