Outdoors editor gets top honor

Steve Pollick, The Blade s outdoors editor, was named the Toledo Naturalists Association naturalist of the year recently at the group s dinner at the Toledo Zoo Lodge.

Mr. Pollick, who joined The Blade in 1971 and began writing the outdoors column in 1982, was honored for a career-long commitment to educating the public about nature and natural history.

He earned a bachelor s degree in journalism, biology, and organic chemistry from the University of Toledo in 1970 and a master s degree in natural resources management from Ohio State University in 1971.

TNA noted that Mr. Pollick was named a fellow of The Explorers Club in New York City in 1987 based on the public educational value of his writing.
