HILLSDALE - Michigan State Police are investigating the owners of a southern Hillsdale County farm where a dead horse was found and three others allegedly continue to live with no shelter and inadequate food and water supplies.

Neighbors in the area reported four horses that have not been cared for properly on property in the 15000 block of Durbin Road, south of Territorial Road, troopers at the Jonesville post said.

Upon investigating, troopers found four horses in an unsheltered pasture with little food and water. One horse died several days ago and, as of yesterday, was still lying in the pasture.

The owners of the property and the animals live near Imlay City, Mich., troopers said. Imlay City is 110 miles northeast of Hillsdale.

The case remains under investigation.
