LIMA, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Development said yesterday it awarded the Allen County Economic Development Group $58,500 to help the community put together a plan to fight the potential closing of the Pentagon-owned Army Tank Plant operated by General Dynamics Land Systems in Lima.
The grant is one of five given statewide totaling $1.5 million to communities that could be affected by the government's base realignment and closure efforts.
The other communities to receive such grants are: Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Youngstown-Warren.
The state called the bases critical components of the nation's defense and a “vital part of Ohio's economy.”
