Tiffin police will reduce nonemergency services

TIFFIN — Citing budget cuts, the Tiffin Police Department has announced plans to stop offering some nonemergency services.

Officers will no longer respond to requests from motorists who have locked their keys in their vehicles or handle routine calls about missing dogs. Vehicle owners who need their cars unlocked will be referred to a local wrecker service.

Police Chief David LaGrange said the Humane Society will help pick up stray dogs during business hours Monday through Friday. The police department will continue responding to complaints about vicious animals, dog bites, animal cruelty, and barking dogs, the chief said.

In addition, police officers will respond to specific parking complaints, but those will be low-priority calls unless a traffic hazard is involved, Chief LaGrange said. The department also plans to close its record bureau at noon on Fridays.
