Library trustees re-elect Carol Block as president

1/23/2004

Toledo-Lucas County Public Library trustees yesterday re-elected Carol Block president of the seven-member board during the annual organizational meeting at the main library downtown.

Mrs. Block was first elected to head the board in January, 2003. Also re-elected were A. Randy Clay as board vice president and George Tucker as secretary.

Sworn in at the meeting was Jamie Black of Waterville, who was appointed to a seven-year term by Lucas County commissioners. He succeeds Harry Kessler, a 26-year board member and a former mayor of Toledo, who did not seek reappointment.

In other business, the board approved changing the name of the Lagrange-Central branch to the Lagrange branch, effective when a new library opens at Lagrange Street and Manhattan Boulevard. Groundbreaking is expected later this year.

The board learned that the library system will receive 21 new public-access computers because of a $21,574 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The computers will be allocated to the main library and the Mott and Lagrange branches.
