Maumee: Plans proceed for police, theater, pool

1/29/2004

A site has been selected for temporarily housing the Maumee police division during construction of its $9.7 million station expected to begin in the spring.

City Council authorized the mayor and clerk to rent a building at 1283 Conant St. from The Anderson's. City officials have been considering locations for when the East Dudley Street station is demolished.

Rent will be $8,333 per month for the 10,000-square-foot facility, according to Police Chief Robert Zink, who recommended the site. Renovations will be made according to police needs.

The council approved the chief's request to apply for a Bureau of Justice Administration bulletproof vest partnership grant for 2004, which would help pay for the 13 vests needed this year. The grant would reimburse up to 50 percent of the $7,900 cost.

The council also agreed to buy state-of-the-art movie projection, sound, and concession equipment for two theaters in the Maumee Indoor from Theater New Vision Cinema Technology of Kansas City, Mo., for $270,144. The existing theater is being renovated and a new theater is being added to the facility. Renovation work is expected to be done in four months.

The council agreed to buy nine large shade umbrellas for the Rolf Park pool under construction, for not more than $25,645.
