Perrysburg: Library sets meetings about levy request

1/29/2004

Three public meetings to provide voters with information about a proposed 1-mill operating levy for the Way Public Library in Perrysburg have been scheduled for early February.

Nancy Kelley, Way Library director, will present information about the levy and answer questions. Residents who have questions or concerns about the levy are encouraged to attend the sessions slated for 10 a.m. Feb. 9; 1 p.m. Feb. 10, and 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Way Caf , 101 E. Indiana Ave.

The 1-mill, four-year levy on the March 2 ballot seeks to raise $475,000 annually for library operations.

During the last three years, the state has made drastic cuts in financial assistance to Ohio libraries, and Way Library is operating at 1999 funding levels.

If approved by voters, the new tax would enable the library to restore several aspects of library service that have been eliminated in response to state cutbacks.
