I-75 near downtown shut from series of accidents

Six vehicles were involved in three accidents on northbound I-75 near downtown Toledo yesterday, closing the expressway for 40 minutes.

Marcia Staczek of Perrysburg was driving northbound approaching the downtown exit about 10:15 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle because of ice, police said.

Ms. Staczek's vehicle struck a concrete barrier, and other drivers began swerving to avoid striking her. Two other accidents with five other vehicles occurred — two other cars and three tractor trailers.

A passenger in one of the cars, who was not identified, suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Traffic on the northbound lanes was rerouted at Miami Street and South Avenue. One lane was reopened about 10:55 a.m.; all lanes were cleared at 12:25 p.m.
