Fayette official begins duties

Lisa Zuver, Fayette s new fiscal officer, began her duties this week.

Village council recently approved the appointment of Ms. Zuver to the newly created position. She was clerk-treasurer in West Unity for four years. Prior to that, she worked at a bank for 12 years.

Born in Toledo, Ms. Zuver was raised in West Unity. She attended what is now Four County Career Center and graduated in 1979 from Hilltop High School.

Previously local residents elected a clerk-treasurer, but village officials decided to switch from an elected treasurer position to an appointed fiscal officer. Several other communities in the Toledo area have changed to appointed fiscal officers, eliminating the elected treasurer post.

Ms. Zuver said that essentially, there has been a name change from treasurer to fiscal officer. “There is not much difference in the two jobs,” she said.

She applied for the new position when the job opportunity came up, she said, because it offers more of a challenge for her. “I am excited to be here,” she said.

She plans to continue living in West Unity. Her annual salary was set at $32,000.

Fayette s former clerk-treasurer, Phillip McKinney, usually was unopposed in elections. Mr. McKinney, who was in his 18th year as clerk-treasurer, died last year.
