Perrysburg Township: Trustees enact ban on liquor

Residents planning to party on Perrysburg Township property should leave the booze at home.

Township trustees this week approved a ban on open containers of alcohol at buildings, shelter houses, athletic fields, and park facilities belonging to the township.

The township originally passed the ban on Aug. 20 but repealed it about a week later because trustees voted during a special meeting that violated the state s Open Meetings Act.

The liquor ban allows an exception for the annual feather party thrown by the township fire department. The department must buy a one-day liquor permit at least seven days before the event.

Trustees can decide by majority vote to lease the township s meeting hall out for parties where alcohol will be served.Residents leasing the hall must obtain liability insurance coverage and release the township from all liability.

Robert Mack, chair of the trustees, said concerns about the township s liability for alcohol-related problems prompted the ban.

He said the township plans to put up signs in parks and other areas to remind residents to obey the ban.

Trustees also voted this week to increase several zoning permit fees by $100. Permits for zoning changes and final plans for planned unit developments will now cost $400.

Zoning Inspector Grant Garn said the township needed to raise fees because Wood County raised its fee to record the permits. Another change will require developers to reimburse the township for engineering services when officials review site plans.
