Sylvania: New pumping station ready for operation

3/4/2004

Residents in an area of eastern Sylvania Township should have fewer reasons to complain about water pressure this summer because a new pumping station at Corey and Whiteford roads will soon be in operation.

Jim Shaw, Lucas County sanitary engineer, said that although the station should be working in about two weeks, it probably won't be noticed by residents until summer when the demand for water increases.

The pumping station on the northwest corner of the intersection was first approved in 2000, but was delayed because the intersection was shifted north.

Traffic engineers said the shift was needed to allow for a longer left-turn lane for northbound traffic on Whiteford turning onto Corey.

The intersection is just north of Sylvania Avenue.

Mr. Shaw said the increased pressure should be felt mainly in an area bounded by Sylvania on the south, Corey on the west, Monroe Street on the north, and Mockingbird Lane on the east.
