Sylvania: Playground equipment donated to park

3/4/2004

A $12,000 piece of playground equipment has been donated to The Olander Park System for use on its new property east of Mitchaw Road between Sylvania Avenue and Brint Road.

The equipment, with slides, climbing apparatus including a climbing wall, and other features was given to the system by developers of Park Place, a residential neighborhood being developed in the same area as the new park.

Gary Madrzykowski, director of the system, said the location of the equipment wouldn't be determined until bicycle paths are located in the 60 acres of new parkland.

The park system is waiting for final approval of a state grant for about 80 percent of the cost of a trail estimated to cost approximately $650,000.

The playground equipment was purchased from Dave Williams & Associates, of Alliance, Ohio, after park officials saw it on display at a convention and told developers they thought it would be a good addition to the park.
