The state of Michigan has received an undisclosed amount of federal funding to continue its emerald ash borer eradication efforts, Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has allocated $28.2 million for the remainder of this year for ash borer eradication, with the majority of funding going to Michigan, Governor Granholm said.

About 6 million of the state's 700 million ash trees have been infested by the Asian beetle that was first identified in 2000. The majority of the affected trees are in southeastern Michigan.
