A Toledo police dispatcher died from injuries he sustained early Sunday in an accident in which, police said, he ran a red light and his vehicle crashed into the corner of a near-downtown building.

Ronald D. Navarro II, 30, of Frampton Drive, died about

11:30 a.m. Sunday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Police said Mr. Navarro was driving south on 17th Street when he went through the red light at Monroe Street about 1 a.m.

Once through the intersection, he veered right and drove off the right side of the road. His vehicle struck and jumped a curb, then hit the corner of the building at 1717 Monroe, police said.

Mr. Navarro underwent surgery in St. Vincent's but later died. Traffic Sgt. Paul Kerschbaum said he was wearing a seat belt. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Sergeant Kerschbaum said.
