New Riegel schools peddle sewage plant

NEW RIEGEL, Ohio - If you need a slightly used sewage treatment plant, Dale Mills may have a deal for you.

The superintendent of the New Riegel Local Schools said the district won't need the portable facility, which is less than two years old, once the village completes the extension of sewer lines from Fostoria. Construction could begin this fall.

Mr. Mills said the school district will be required to tap in to the new village system, making the $100,000 treatment plant at the New Riegel School redundant. The plant, which can handle about 10,000 gallons a day, was built two years ago to provide sewer service to the school, which opened in December, 2002.

The district hopes to sell the treatment facility to a business or other entity that needs to replace an old treatment plant or buy it to serve a new building. Mr. Mills said he hoped the district could get about $20,000 for the plant, which would cost a buyer plenty to move and install at a new site. Otherwise, he added, "We're going to have this thing worth $100,000 that's a big lawn ornament."
