A Swanton man whose vehicle hit a gas meter Tuesday in South Toledo was in critical condition yesterday in Medical College of Ohio Hospitals.

Paul J. Hudson, Jr., 64, of Airport Highway was westbound in the 5700 block of Nebraska Avenue about 10 p.m. when he went left of center and over the curb. His vehicle hit the meter at 5751 Nebraska, police said.

Emergency personnel found him unconscious in the vehicle and removed him. Occupants of 5751 Nebraska were evacuated because the crash caused a gas leak.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but initial indications are that Mr. Hudson may have suffered a medical problem, police said.
