PUT-IN-BAY - Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial will open tomorrow for the 2004 season, the National Park Service has announced.

The monument, which includes the 352-foot-high pink granite Doric column erected in 1915, commemorates Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's victory over a British fleet during the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813.

The memorial will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in the early spring and late fall, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the late spring and early fall, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from mid-June through Labor Day.

Park rangers will offer hourly interpretive talks Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, rangers will dress in period uniforms and discuss the War of 1812 and conduct musket-firing demonstrations.

The visitor's center includes exhibits on the war and a panoramic view of the monument.
