Michigan man accused of violating meetings law

HILLSDALE - The president of the Lake Diane Property Owners Association in southern Hillsdale County is to appear in Hillsdale County Second District Court on charges of violating the open meeting act.

Daniel Duncan Fleck, 49, of Manchester, Mich., failed to take a two-thirds vote to go into closed session on Feb. 14, according to the Michigan State Police.

He turned himself in to authorities on Thursday and was released on a personal recognizance bond that will charge him $1,000 if he misses his court date on April 28.

State Police Lt. William Kanouse, who lives on the lake, was at the property owners' association meeting as an observer when, he said, Mr. Fleck announced that the board would go into a closed-door session to discuss legal problems.

But Mr. Fleck did not call for a vote, Lieutenant Kanouse said, and the police officer reported that to the Hillsdale County prosecutor.
