LUCKEY, Ohio - A Bradner, Ohio, woman and her 1-year-old grandson were seriously hurt yesterday when their car and a dump truck collided on State Rt. 199 at Sugar Ridge Road in Wood County's Webster Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Jane Dankert, 51, the driver of the car, and Zachary Sayen, who was restrained in a child seat, were flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where they were in serious condition last night.

The Dankert car was northbound on the state route about 2:35 p.m. crossing Sugar Ridge when a dump truck driven by Ronald Dyal, 48, of Pemberville, Ohio, who was eastbound on Sugar Ridge, ran a stop sign and turned right to avoid hitting the car.

Troopers said the truck then rolled and smashed into the car.

Mr. Dyal told the troopers the truck's brakes malfunctioned.

Mr. Dyal was treated in St. Charles Mercy Hospital, troopers said.
