Wood County to open pond for public fishing

5/11/2004

BOWLING GREEN - Wood County anglers will have a new fishing hole later this month.

Wood County Park District commissioners yesterday entered into an agreement with county commissioners to open and operate for public fishing a 10-acre pond located at the county office complex on East Gypsy Lane Road.

Park Director Neil Munger said the park district has been talking with commissioners about using the pond for fishing for about a year. The district gets numerous inquiries from fishermen looking for spots to fish, he said.

The park district plans to place a few picnic tables at the pond and try to control poison ivy at the site before opening the pond to the public in a few weeks. The county will continue to mow the property, but park rangers will patrol the area and the park district will keep the pond stocked, Mr. Munger said.
