Sylvania pilot unhurt as aircraft crash-lands

WAUSEON - A Sylvania man escaped serious injury yesterday when his single-engine plane crashed while he was attempting to land at the Fulton County Airport, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Carlton Fraker, 61, was treated at the scene by paramedics with the Wauseon Fire Department after the 11:19 a.m. incident, which occurred just east of the airport on County Road 13.

Troopers at the Toledo post said Mr. Fraker was approaching the airport when his Mustang replica aircraft lost power. The plane struck the field and the landing gear broke off, causing the plane to spin counter-clockwise.

The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted, but declined to respond to the scene, troopers said.

Authorities said the owner will remove the aircraft from the scene and will make it available for FAA inspection at the airport.
